Barley Mow (Warrington)

Barley Mow

This pub- set into a square in the pedestrianised part of warrington town centre is a small celebration of indie and emo music amidst a barrage of old men and trendy haircuts set accross the backdrop of chains and social teenage masks. It is quite the pub therefore, a fresh air to the town and yet one of the oldest and most traditional abodes on offer. The serving times are fast, the bar staff very friendly and the prices are reasonable. Definitely worth the drink, a surprise tavern although less of a good one if you can't appreciate some 'travis' and the odd 'Darkness' single.

Overall a special 6/10. Rated on the fact that 'Travis' makes me gag and 'the Darkness' makes me fit.

As regular of the pub for maany years it is the best pub in warrington the emo indie thing is abit of a lie as most of it's users are older age people in the day time with a wide range of older music then 6 o clock you get your metal music rock music mixed with rap and dance everyone of it's regulars are friendly and always around of a laugth and if u do hear the darkness in that pub then god help us all...

This pub is my local and I go in there around 2 times a week on average. In all my time going in there I don't ever remember seeing an "emo" or hearing anything by the Darkness or Travis. And it's certainly not a place that indie kids hang about.

It's mainly old rock, metal and some rap that's played in there. It's the best pub I've ever been in, the locals are friendly and you quickly get to know everyone and that's why I keep going back. Also that place is full of history and has been in the centre of the town for hundreds of years.

That's why I reckon it's worth more than a 6 out of 10.

Fair comment. Being that it is you're local I would be more inclinded to trust your opinion since I only went in their twice and this review is about three years old now.

Thank you for your comment.

I work there, its shit.

Hello!

Absolutely cracking boozer, nice place to just sit and have a drink, staff and the landlord are very friendly and the service was great. Highly recommended, one of the best pubs I've ever been in !

I grew up going in that pub in a fantastic 90's indie scene. Included the infamous clubs, Legends, The Carlton, The Red Lion and later The World. Ian Brown would pop into town and we'd have all the bands coming to Warrington to do warm up gigs before playing Liverpool or Manchester and even Glastonbury.
We'd all start the night in the Barley Mow.
Now I'm living in Italy but bloody hell them were the days!!!!

The Barley Mow used to be the place to be but now its run by a fat bastard with a chip on his shoulder an most of the punters are wankers, but with your friends an most of the REAL bar staff u can have a good night. Tho its better if u get the good people to a good bar with u. Love an Kisses
