The Hengist is quite literally the poshest looking country pub I have ever approached. Unfortunately once inside it becomes clear that although the upper class country-cottage effect speaks high scoring pub this venue is firstly a restaurant and somewhere at the back of the race; a bar. Inside, the plush restaurant veers of the right with country decor - log fires and rich edibles with a very strong menu and wonderful tastes to behold. On the first floor sits the bar, bathed in the whorehouse red lighting and thoses a less tasteful colour on the setting. Drinks are naturally extortionate in price although the varieties of wine among other drinks is well selected.

Overall the Hengist looks like it had the bar added as an after-thought. It is empty mid-week and I would expect no sole to come here solely for the bar - which on reflection is literally a red waiting room for diners before seating; far more could be done to provide atmosphere, comfort and life than a couple of red light bulbs and some brown chairs - 5/10
