Edward's Bar (Matthews Street - Liverpool)

Edward's Bar

A short trot from the home of the beatles this supposed chain bar is a nice little gem hidden in these old fashioned scouse backroads. The bar is of medium sized with the venue itself based on two floors with a small galley where the upstairs overlooks the down. Music is played in here throughout the day- pop in genre and just loud enough to talk over. There are small Tvs dotted aorund playing music videos and drinks at the bar are about average- £2.10 a pint, £6 a bottle of house rose and £1.30 for a large coke. There is also good quality cheap food available. Its certainly a good place to come for a few drinks in the early eveing before heading off to something more substantial down matthews street.

Overall it does appeal to the cheap-mans sense of beer in the centre of this busy city but has little character and like most chain pubs falls neatly in a rating of 6/10.

Rubber Soul Club (Liverpool)

Rubber Soul Club

Trotting down old Matthews street in middle of a fine Saturday evening the parade and I enter the abode of one Rubber Soul Club. A forked venue with a large dance floor to one side and an old man style pub with tables and a long bar to the right. The place was notably empty for 8pm but we assumed it would pick up later. I ordered a hard and fast half of Cider which came to 90p. The barman was fast to serve but not particularly friendly. The music was of a ranging variety and the parade and I decided there would be a better crowd and atmosphere in Flares club over the road.

Overall we weren't impressed, it was rather dark and gloomy and could have been so much more with more folk- maybe just under-sold to the teenage market. And a 4/10 for you Mr Sergeant Pepper.

The Welkin (Liverpool City Centre)

The Welkin (Wetherspoons) (1st non-smoking pub in the city)

Or so it was foretold on one sunny sunny afternoon drinking fair drinks in a smoke free environment in the heart of liverpool, it was a thursday because it was curry club as I recall and the staff were fast to serve and the drinks were as cheap as ever they had been. there was space to sit and oversized scally workmen moaning that they could not destroy their lungs in public. And In such a place why should you get a random lady write her name on a napkin and give it to you before she leaves a pub-equipped without any contact details? An upstairs on this place too with nice toilets but a general weird shape for a pub.

Overall a 5/10, the complaints started a rucuss and we found ourselves heading for another bar now that it was night.....

X in the City - Strip Club (Liverpool)

X in the City

This was the first Strip Club i ever went to in Liverpool was some mates for a 21st Birthday and I didnt regret it. i was a great experience.
The lights were lowly lit and dancers come up to you every few minutes asking you if you are interested in the dance. Their makeup clearly hides certain scars but they do have good figures. The club itself is £5 to get in and from £10 a dance. The bar itself is expensive but is empty most of the night to grab a drink but with a pretty poor selection. It wasn't as seedy as i expected, rather a laugh.

Overall i'd say it was a 7/10. I hope all my strip club experiences are this good!

Bar @ Adelphi Hotel (Liverpool)

Bar @ Adelphi Hotel

Ok, so i did end up at this bar because of a private function, can I review it then? Of course I can, but take note that the cost of items may have been subsidised. The place itself is infamous for representing the interier of the titanic with lustrious late victorian halls and copious amounts of waiting staff, but to be fair the place is falling apart and needs renovation. The bar was split to cater the guests into the two rooms surrounding the dining hall. The firest bar was small, the staff incompitant and rude and waiting times- well expect to wait for forever. They have very little on tap and the cheapest thing is white wine at £8 for the house version in white. The second bar snaked round the corner with just as bad waiting times and actually ran out of glasses. I expected more from the toilets however, I entered to see a parade of lads cheering at an ever-flushing toilet cubicle chanting "Flush, Flush, Flush". Extremely funny but left me walking away from the place not wanting to return.

Overall a poor 2/10, I have had better bar-service from back-alley strip clubs.

Yates (Liverpool City Centre)

Yates
Its the night of the European Cup Qualifier between Liverpool and god-knows who (I'm not a football fan), and i find myself with my mates in Yates not 5 minutes away from the stadium where everything is going on, watching the match on the massive TV screens they have in this pub. Well who would have thought they would have won and moments later the streets come alive with the sounds of screaming crowds. I tell you, Yates was busy that night. The drinks as ever are well priced and its based on two floors, with both floors looking exactly the same. It was a night to remember and I think this pub will well prepared for the flood that followed.

Overall 6/10.

Krazyhouse Rock Club (Liverpool)

Crazy House Rock Club

Crazy house is absolutely amazing. I went there on Rock night which is every friday I believe. 5 floors, yes 5 floors 3 of them being clubs and 2 being exclusive bars but one payment gives access to all. On a friday the bottom one was Indie rock tunes, the 3rd was heavy metal, metal and hardcore and the top level was industrial, and dance-rock tunes. The bars in between sold bottles at 1.50 each even on alcopops and all shots at 1.20 . I had the sambuca and the amazing evening. It can turn into a bit of a maze but I thought it was the best place in the whole of liverpool for rock!

Overall an earth-shattering 9/10.

The Basement (Liverpool City Centre)

The Basement
The Basement looked dead small, its a basement club, or so we thought and it was very empty for a Friday night. Anyway it turned out it was a 2 floor Bar/Club combo that was quite hard to distinguish. Its a fantastic theme location and never gets too crowded, the drinks are reasonabley priced and they even have cider on tap which i always look for. I'll just leave it at that and let you discover it for yourselves, we just had trouble leaving, the podiums are the best bit, being able to stand in front of a crowd of peopel and dance above them and them not even see you in the darkness is great.

Overall the Basement gets an evil 8/10 my party and I thoroughly enjoyed the 2 hours we spent in there.

Flares (Liverpool City Center)

Flares

Cheesy 70's and 60's all the way normally especially on a tuesday when drinks in here are on average on a pound even on pints and bottles but this particular venue, no way. Steer clear ladies. Its particularly sleazy and its not a good layout either. Serving times are slow and you have to go downstairs to get in-never a good thing if your drinking. Its probably not that bad but I know i didnt enjoy like I have enjoy other Flares bars in the past.

Overall 4/10 becasue although its hugely cheap its just not nice.
