The George (Elephant and Castle - London)

The George

The start of the monopoly pub crawl sees this pub busy from the first light of day any given saturday in the calender despite the fact that it seems a drift out of the way of a central location. It's basically a short bus ride from the station and without one can expect friendly bar staff - big booths to accomodate groups, a large central bar and friendly staff. The prices are also quite reasonable at £250 a pint and a doubel with mixer at £2.20. However the local feel of the place leaves it a bit gruff and the interior could do with a bit of a wax and a polish. A good start for the crawl but little to offer the thrill-seeking drinker.

Overall prices are good but it just doesnt feel very heatry as a pub which makes you glow on the inside - still not a particularly bad word to say about the joint - 5/10

Wetherspoons Terminal 4 (Heathrow - London)

Wetherspoons Terminal 4

There's nothing quite like going miles and miles out of your way for a pint in the name of the blog. Okay so I happened to be dwelling in a certain arrivals lounge when i spotted the all too familiar glow of the Wetherspoons logo and looking at the watch popped up to the firest floor at this terminal at Heathrow airport for a cheeky half. Theres a small arrivals screen above the bar so you can't get caught pint in hand unless you get carried away and accross the carpetted floor are a few games machines. I found this place to be a particularly popular place for that cheap all day breakfast and although the service is slow and the slection behind the bar is dreadful it does have a spice of convieniance about it. This was until I realised the place was nothing more that a room full of samey tables and low chairs, travelling families and large cases between the seats. The prices have been jacked up in here as well so expect to pay around £3 a pint.

Overall I was disappointed to see that the airport had influenced the relatively stable price of the wetherspoons pint (and dispite being so close to the arrivals gate),  even the tacky table clothes and sweaty socks of long-haul travellers couldn't put a smile on my face - 3/10.

Belugar Cafe (Canary Wharf - London)

Belugar Cafe (Champagne & Wine Bar)
A temporary building beside Cnada Wharf serving food alcohol and hot drinks to lucky ice skaters using the rink beside it. I nipped in for some hot chocolate on a nice cold day and found it to be a quite place full of foreign bar staff who could not speak a word of english. The drinks were way overpriced and after knocking them back the realisation suddenly hits you- NO TOILETS. Isn't that illegal??

Oh well with bottles of champagne to decorate the room your bound to be able to walk off with a survenir should your bladder burst and you want some compensation. Overall a dank 1/10.

Brixton Academy (Brixton - London)

Brixton Academy
Brixton is a fantastic music venue but a good bar? Well not really the best. Brixton you see, is round the corner from Brixton tube station, always easy to find because if there is an event occuring there the crowds are pouring to it and leaving is simple because the scenario reverses. Once inside you find youself looking at a large hallway that filters upstairs on two staircases either side of the cavern which leads you downstairs into the main arena. The bar is situated to your left as you enter through the doors and serve assorted drinks, watered down beer from plastic cups and extortionate bottles of water. To be fair you dont come to drink and expect to wait ages to be served- possibily the worst thing that can happen if your favourite band is on stage and your mouth feels like it has never felt the taste of water. And expensive- yes, yes indeed. Although as with all these places the large capicity toilets are a relief on the eye as well as on other things.

Overall the venue picks up the fact that it is a poor bar to leave you looking at a 6/10.

South London Pacific (Kennington - London)

South London Pacific

I went with a party of about twenty people all dressed in hawian shirts, sandals and straw hats to South London Pacific in Kensington, a fair stretch from my home but it was for a friends birthday. The place is not very large and looks terribley cheesy from the outside but inside it has amazing cocktail prices for london ranging from £4-£6 each, and boy are they strong, i must have had about five shots in each one. Be aware that cocktails is about all htey actually serve apart from the odd bottled beer and tequila but the music is pretty popular stuff and the crowd is very varied. I recall seeing a group of sailors there and some punks too. The queues at the bar never last more than ten minutes and the staff are very friendly.

I give it a 9/10 simply cos its a bit of a trek to get back from on the bus but there are night buses very close by! Goodjob
