Barley Mow (Warrington)

Barley Mow

This pub- set into a square in the pedestrianised part of warrington town centre is a small celebration of indie and emo music amidst a barrage of old men and trendy haircuts set accross the backdrop of chains and social teenage masks. It is quite the pub therefore, a fresh air to the town and yet one of the oldest and most traditional abodes on offer. The serving times are fast, the bar staff very friendly and the prices are reasonable. Definitely worth the drink, a surprise tavern although less of a good one if you can't appreciate some 'travis' and the odd 'Darkness' single.

Overall a special 6/10. Rated on the fact that 'Travis' makes me gag and 'the Darkness' makes me fit.

Mr Smiths (Warrington)

Mr Smiths

12/08/07 - Mr Smiths has now Closed

This is warringtons largest and most controversial club flooding the town with people in there hundreds once it closes at 3am. There are also kiddie nights herte for under 18s and its all mainly dance and house. An expensive entry leads you down onto the club floor where there is a long bar and table and seating space. The unique design leads the dancer down a rounded shallow staircase onto a packed dancefloor in front of a stage and DJ box. Literally the only place to be late in town. Its got a rep for voilence though and the prices are far nmore worthy of london.

I've not had a good time here in the past which is why I give it a 5/10 but you may like it...

The White Hart (Warrington)

The White Hart

This pub- located in the town center behind the bus station consists of several rooms and a bar. The first room to your left contains a pool table and there is RnB and some rock athems being delivered into the air. The drinks are a good price and it doesnt get too busy at the weekend if you arrive early. There is also plenty of seating but its nothing too special. A pretty regular pub.

It was quite a dingy place to drink. Not the life of the party by a long shot. Overall 4/10

Flares (Warrington)

Flares

This is an old classic on the Warrington Bar scene. A fuzz o f 70's and 60's classics blaring out into the streets of this Northern haven. The drinks are supercheap especially on a tuesday and there loads of room to dance even with a floor of lights like in Saturday Night Fever. All the works here and I think the best example of a good Flares Bar. Its a shame I cant find any of these down south, and I dont even like this music. Very fast serving times and friendly staff, open til about 2am.

Overall
7/10

Casi's (Warrington)

Casi's

Pronounced 'Sassies' this is the only rock club in Warrington and I think it tries really hard to be something its not. You get an air of primary school disco when you enter and look into the faces of 50 something 12 year olds. The Bar is cheap and to your left and as you walk past some seating on your right you reach a DJ booth, where the guy has never even heard of Mindless Self Indulgence and onto the dancefloor, a big space no-mans land without the slightest peek of a mosh pit. To your left now there is a green lit room with more seating and up the stairs you reach other dance floor for what was apparently the same genre as downstairs. The Bar taff were older, rather chatty and pleased with themselves and it certainly produces the rock mood in an RnB town. Its worth the single visit.

Overall it gets a sympathetic 5/10

The Feathers (Warrington)

The Feathers

The feathers is a pub with a dance floor so it feels far more like a bar- and the prices do to. This is the favourite hangout of locals who bustle in here after work and get the drinks down. The toilets lead off at the back in a tunnel like effect which leaves one disorientated and thristy- so its back to the bar,. This place is nothing special but theres lots of seating and the atmosphere is friendly without being too noisy yet still in the centre of action in town. Lots of fun

Overall 7/10

Mascrat Manor (Warrington)

Mascrat Manor (A toby Cavary)

Mascrat Manor is one of those family pub style restaurants except it is also an oversized pub club-house style structure just off of the M6 motorway. The food is pretty amazing in here although I here it may have changed hands and it gets pretty busy of an evening especially at the weekend. You'd want to drive though but theres plenty of parking so its not a problem. I alcohol is also well priced and lots of gambling machines and football screenings to please those sports fans.

Overall 6/10 only because its so out of the way

Chicago Rock (Warrington)

Chicago Rock (Warrington)

A far cry from any kind of Rock music, this Bar in Warrington is part of a larger chain though I've only ever been to this one. It serves food at has two floors. The drinks are completely overpriced but its an older crowd -ie older than 20. And the music is very commercial with DJs playing at the weekend. The place does tend to get overcrowded but i'd avoid getting friendly on the dance floor as the bouncers can be quite violent. Their bar girls are also pretty hot stuff and the building is as impressive on the outside as the night out is inside. All things considered..

..this bar gets 6/10 because although there is an expense the bargirls make up for it!

McCauley's (Warrington)

McCauley's

I would say this is one of those bars you walk past thinking its a pub and never go inside. Uniquely it is one of the latest opening bars- especially for during the week, and they serve a vast number of cheap cocktails with 2 for 1 special offers. There is some seating with leather couches at the back and space for dancing to popular tunes. the place never seems to get too crowded and you get a sense that although it is a bar everyone knows each other inside. It really is the best bar for the local warrington population and you get the impression they all know each other. Friendly bar staff too.

Overall 8/10

Brannigans (Warrington)

Brannigans

Warringtons nightlife centre of alternative culture. This place feels like an old theatre with a bar stuck where the seats used to be and the dance floor being on stage, you feel very much in the spotlight- even in the low lights. This venue is playing the best of Hiphop and Rnb in what opens as a dingy seedy bar but reveals comfortable seats and lots of booty. The drinks are a little highly priced for warrington and this attracts an older crowd that can afford it. The toilets are a disgrace though, watch out for the steep stairs in heels ladies!!

Overall a refreshing 6/10 because this club delivers an experience that you cannot find elsewhere in Warrington.

Torch (Warrington)

Torch

For starters you will need one when you go in. Even on the busiest nights in town you feel like you've stumbled into an oversized wardrobe. Oh wait theres a light at the end, yes definitely, oh its a bar but no the barman wont serve you cos hes chatting to the only other person in the place. When you do get served you realise their drinks selection is poor and then so are you because of the prices. The trick is you cant see the door on the way out so you stay in there forever hahahahahaha.

Not funny, not nice either. a poor 2/10.only good if you like darkness or loneliness.

Bar Tempo (Warrington)

Bar Tempo
This somewhat circular bar is difficult to find unless you have been there before or you know someone who knows where it is. You see it when you drive past but finding it when you are in town is difficult. They have good deals on a number of shooters as well as good prices on beer and wine. Bottles are overpriced as usual. The dancefloor is the centerpiece of this quiet night out and the upstairs appeared to be off limits. Because of the lack of crowds this can be a very enjoyable weekend evening where drinks take only moments to recieve accorss the bar and you can actually see the location of your friends from accorss the room.

Overall Bar Tempo gets a 6/10.

Edisons Bar (Warrington)

Edisons Bar

[UPDATE] :June 2006: Edisons Bar in Warrington has now closed permanently.

Edisons has a dancefloor with a good Dj and seating over the dancefloor in like a lowered galley, around the corner is a bar and then upstairs another and then upstairs a pool and air hockey area. A very diverse and entertaining establishment. The place is not too publisised and has quite a well hidden entrance so never gets too overcrowded and theres plenty of seating. This bar has quite a few promo nights as well, my favourite is tuesday- student night. One pound to get in. Everything and i mean EVERYTHING is a pound each. Easily the best value for money on the planet. Every trip to the bar I bought a pint of cider, a bottle of reef and a shot of blue aftershock at a £3 total . WASTED.

Edisons is amazing and their food is getting better too. Overall 9/10

Big Bar (Warrington)

Big Bar

Big bar is all about the dance music. Its a dark pub turned club with a dancefloor at DJ in the center and pub style seating around the outside. A rather sleezy crowd but the bars waiting times are very good and they always have deals on drinks. Probably the only place for dance music in Warrington which makes it popular at the weekend. The toilets are also inviting.

Overall big Bar gets 7/10.

NB: Annemarie - Chav of Chester claims Big Bar to be "Utterly amazing, if i was writing your f**king Blog i'd give it a 9 !!!" , trust her opinion at your own risk!

Panama Jacks (Warrington)

Panama Jacks
This is the latest edition to Warringtons growing bar scene. It has a nice clean shiny feel about it but theres no where to sit. You go in and the bar is a horseshoe shape in front of you and the bar trails off to the left with a DJ and the toilets are up the stairs. The drinks are too expensive for the area, probably the most expensive in Warrington but it gets very busy and the crowd is mainly friendly, the lighting bar the bar is bright as well even when it gets late so that you can still see the faces around you and dont stray towards minging parties.

Overall a rather pleasent 7/10 but it is too expensive for Warringtons taste.

Yates (Warrington)

Yates

This is a rather large Yates but very accomodating, lots of seating and good food. The place is rounded focusing on the enormous high bar very well stocked and visible form the upstairs gallery as well. There is an upstairs in case of overcrowding and the drinks are a pretty good price, if a little expensive for warrington. The serving time is a little too long but the varety of drinks they have always keeps me going back. The booths are a licked cramped so i wouldnt recommend sitting in those if you are more than 4 feet all. I couldnt find Midori anywhere else in Warrington except here!

Overall 6/10

Friar Penketh Wetherspoons (Warrington)

Friar Penketh (Wetherspoons)

Set on two floors in the heart of warringtons nightlife this bar is teeming with persons come friday and saturday night but during the week it can be a nice and civilised place to share a beer. The bar staff are friendly and the waiting times at the bar are a little excessive but get there early enough in the evening and you always get a table and a wide selection of the cheapest drinks in town.

Overall 7/10.

The Farmers Arms (Fearnhead - Warrington)

The Farmers Arms

Its a student no-go and therefore a dive, literally they will kick you out if they expect student in you, or if you are educated. The food is also nasty. I'm serious don't even bother, even if you are desperate for a pint this is one of the worst pubs in the country.

I don't know why i bothered reviewing this place because it is a 1/10

Tiger Toos (Warrington)

Tiger Toos
Chilly in the winter i'd have to say. I have distinct memories of the bar persons puffing out streams of steamed breath from under huddled jackets while serving drinks. They have a DJ and dance floor pumping out hiphop, RnB and dance rythmes. The best thing about this place and perhaps the only reason to go is the drinks deal before 10pm on weekdays which is £5 for a vodka red bull fish bowl. So this means NINE shots of Vodka and 3Cans of red bull equipped with straws. Dont ask for ice though cos its just too cold, you wanna down it and move on!

Overall a comfortable 6/10.

Breeze Bar (Warrington)

Breeze Bar

I couldnt tell you an awful amount about this place. I was pretty darned wasted, erm lets see it has bar downstairs that does deals on vodka red bull, lots of very loud dance music and too many lights to contimlate entering after you've had too many, Its not an upbeat place unless your looking for sleaze and there as much better places to go in the surrounding area, just walk past don't go in is my advice.

Overall 3/10.

Padgate Campus Students Union (Padgate - Warrington)

Padgate Campus Students Union
As I understand it there is a new student Union in the Bag but this is a review of the old one. There is a secure team of bouncers, a very cheap bar, big wooden tables as seating and comfortable couches, though not enough of them, this building is condemned as well as the ceiling is too low and it is basically falling apart. it is too small to be any good and the toilets are in a right state.
This building opens on what is referred to as 'the bunker', a small hall which serves up to 400 people but with a bar that only serves about 3 types of drinks. It feels like a primary school disco.

Overall this SU gets 6/10. It was just so cheap it was unavoidable but it is seriously ugly.

Posterngate (Warrington)

Posterngate

This is one of my favourite bars ever. I couldnt say why, it looks like a big hut from the outside and the inside feels like a big tent with some couches and a strange dancefloor, RnB tunes and a very friendly atmosphere. I guess i'm a sucker for cheap, good cocktails and in here the bar staff are very friendly and are churning out Tequila sunrises and frothy creamy surprises at only £3.25 a pop. Amazing. you can get through the whole menu in about an hour and just about get out the door with plently of cash to spend elsewhere. The toilets are awful though so be aware. I've never seen so much sick in my life!

Overall, although it probably deserves more, the consensus of opinion is that this gets an 8/10, and its my best bar in Warrington!!

Reef Bar (Warrington)

Reef Bar

Amazingly I thought that because this club bore the logo of Reef it would indeed sell that at a good price but no, they are about £2 each. They have a good selection of shooters but having said that when you leave the bar with a handful of them theres no where to sit except on the dance floor. The bar is run by the same people as PosternGate which is about 20m away because they have exactly the same bar staff. Who are very friendly!! The music there is popular dance with some RnB classics to boot. I have been to this bar many times and keep going back (as long as i'm not too drunk to get in).

This bar gets a rating of 7/10 because of its awkward shape, lack of chairs and toilets being up the largest flight of stairs I have ever known.

53 Degrees (Warrington)

53 Degrees (Formerly known as 53 Degrees North)

Its an RnB club with 2 for 1 offers on everything during happy hour which is 8pm to 9pm. The crowd is pretty young with the odd oversized person and the odd prat. The toilet queues are terrible and the girls toilets are disgusting I am told "they are completely blocked by the end of the night". Plenty of slags if your into that type of thing. For a club its pretty small and its very popular for people that wish to go here then move onto Mr Smiths -30m up the road. They have good DJ's at the weekends though but on a tuesday (student night) its not recommended.

Over I give this club 4/10. Its oright if your with a big crowd on a quiet night and if its your kind of music, which it certainly isn't mine.
